Welcome to the latest post in our “Employee Q&A” series, where we interview an employee to reflect on their career and experience at 3D Cloud™. Part of our success is mainly due to our people. So, we’re excited to feature a hardworking team member to learn about their journey at 3D Cloud.
This week, we spotlight Brett Oliver, Material Artist at 3D Cloud™. Let’s read on to learn more!
Brett, how did you find out about 3D Cloud?
I had a good friend I worked at Apple with who had been hired, and he felt I would be a great fit for the culture here!
What is your current role at 3D Cloud now? What does it consist of?
I am a Material Artist, and it consists of creating textures that look high quality and creating tools to assist in the creation of said textures.
Can you give a brief overview of your background?
Before becoming a material artist, I worked at 3D Cloud as a Content Analyst. That was a hybrid 3D and Data role, where I had to know everything from our data specs to how our models and materials were created to work with the art team and the studios we use to create our models and make sure the full products work in our apps. It made it very easy to transition to the 3D team!
Before that, I worked in IT for three years at Apple as a genius admin and taking care of my store’s server systems. I also worked in retail for roughly 6 years before I even started that.
What is one thing that surprised you about your current role?
How much it would challenge the art side of my brain. I’ve always been very artistic, but this is taking references and making things look as close to real life as possible, and I didn’t do that in my personal art.
What do you like most about the work we do at 3D Cloud?
I really like trying to describe what our company does for people who don’t really understand room planners or renders just to eventually break down and tell them I essentially make the Sims but for sales.
How would you describe your direct team culture?
Close Knit, Tight, Friendly. Our team works super well together and makes sure all of us are on track, even if we have to learn new skills to do so.
What is something that you learned about yourself in the past year?
That I am getting old, I’m in bed by 9, not good at video games like I was ten years ago, and my hairline is starting to go.
Some of the work you do can be challenging. What keeps you grounded and energized?
Honestly, the team I work with has been the main thing. We all check in on each other, and some of us play MTG (Magic the Gathering) or fighting games at my lead’s house. It keeps me excited to work with everyone and keep on coming back even when things are tough.
Thank you, Brett, for taking the time to share your career journey and experiences at 3D Cloud™. You are very skilled at what you do, and it shines through your contributions to the company!
