Welcome to the latest post in our “Employee Q&A” series, where we interview an employee to reflect on their career and experience at 3D Cloud™. Part of our success is mainly due to our people. So, we’re excited to feature a hardworking team member to learn about their journey at 3D Cloud.

This week, we spotlight Curtis Gingue, Security and Support Specialist at 3D Cloud™. Let’s read on to learn more!

Curtis, how did you learn about 3D Cloud™, and what is your current role at the company?

My brother-in-law, Ian Newland, has worked at 3D Cloud since the beginning. He used to tell tales of the augmented reality technology he was building, and it always fascinated me. When he asked me if I wanted an internship for the summer of 2020, I jumped at the opportunity. Since then, I’ve come on full-time as our Security and Support Specialist.

What does your role consist of?

I have a few sub-roles.

Production Support: Keeping people and services running smoothly and jumping into problems where they arise. This gets me into all sorts of fun stuff – from troubleshooting SQL connections to configuring new Jenkins builder machines.

Security and Infrastructure: Maintaining compliance with our own security policies, as well as SOC and ISO standards throughout our infrastructure. Again, lots of fun stuff under this umbrella, including device management and internal security audits.

What do you think is the most important skill that you bring to the table?

Adaptability. I get thrown some curveballs, so being able to take whatever and run with it is really important. I love challenges, and I certainly get them.

How do you motivate yourself at work? Do you have any secret tips?

For me, it’s really easy to be motivated to work. I love to learn, and I do so every single day. Plus, everybody here is awesome. It’s hard to be in a bad mood with an awesome team around.

Secret tip: It’s really tough, but wait an hour after waking to drink your coffee. You’ll avoid the afternoon crash, and it feels like the caffeine works better that way. Thanks, Dr. Huberman!

What are three words to describe 3D Cloud?

Never stop improving. We are always looking to build on what we’ve already done, but better.

What is the best advice you could give to someone who just started a career at 3D Cloud?

Reach out to as many of us as possible – You can learn something from everyone on this team; we’re all pretty cool.

What have you gained from working at 3D Cloud?

So much knowledge! There’s been a ridiculous number of growth opportunities for me at 3D Cloud, and with that comes new tools and jargon to learn. Also, I must reiterate the awesome group of intelligent, hardworking superstars I’m honored to call colleagues and friends.

Who are some of your biggest inspirations at 3D Cloud, and why?

Shawn Kilian is a literal animal, inside and outside of working hours. He’s my own personal crazy-number-of-mile-running David Goggins if David was also a badass QA Analyst with insane attention to detail. Shawn is also very kind and was one of my first friends at the company. I’m super proud of how far we have both come. I have to get a little soft and say Ian Newland has been a role model and, really, an older brother to me for almost ten years now. It all started with him showing me how to set up a Minecraft server. I have an enormous amount of respect and appreciation for Ian and the wisdom he loves to bestow.

What is a dream that you want to make come true one day?

I’d like to have a Nissan 350z with a Rocket Bunning widebody kit painted black with purple flake. It would have a single turbo 1jz-gte with head work done to rev to 10.5k rpm and a Form 8.8 single axle rear end with a limited-slip differential and 11.5in rear wheels. Of course, the wheels would be AG-F142s.

Getting into real estate would be cool too.

What is one food you can’t resist? Pizza? Ice Cream?

I have Canadian roots, so in my opinion, nothing compares to poutine.

Thank you, Curtis, for taking the time to share insights about yourself and your journey at 3D Cloud™. We appreciate your dedication to the team and our mission and the important skills you bring to the table.
