This week, we spotlight Ian Newland, Director of Cloud Technologies at 3D Cloud™. Let’s read on to learn more!
Ian, how did you learn about 3D Cloud™, and what is your current role at the company?
I was introduced to the company by one of my close friends, Vince Kilian, who, like myself, was an early adopter of 3D Cloud shortly after its inception. Over the years, I have worn many hats, but currently, I develop and architect software for our 3D Cloud platform.
What does your role consist of?
My role mainly consists of taking on some of the more difficult software development and cloud architecture tasks. These challenges include how we ingest, convert, and deliver content in the cloud to our front-end user applications. I also manage a team of developers involved in executing the architecture vision.
What do you think is the most important skill that you bring to the table?
My strongest skill is time management and project execution. I have a knack for visualizing a project, determining how long it will take with the resources I’m given, and executing it to the delivery date. This, of course, comes with making sacrifices to scope and feature, but more often than not gets us to a minimum viable product (MVP).
How do you motivate yourself at work? Do you have any secret tips?
Motivation at work can be challenging at times, especially when working remotely. I am fortunate enough to enjoy what I do, so the work becomes less like work and more like learning and developing my skills. As the old saying goes…”If you enjoy what you do, you’ll never work a day in your life.” I like to call it “Leveling up in life.”

What is the best advice you could give to someone who just started a career at 3D Cloud?
For new people joining the company, I share the things that have helped me stay at the company for over 10+ years: Work hard, enjoy what you do, and work as a team.
What have you gained from working at 3D Cloud?
Besides the invaluable work experience at 3D Cloud, I’ve also gained a lot of friendships. I work with a lot of my friends, and we innovate and build exciting technology every day.
Who are some of your biggest inspirations at 3D Cloud, and why?
Some of my biggest inspirations at 3D Cloud are Vince Kilian and Ryan Roche. These individuals are dedicated, hard-working and bring a ton of value to the company.
Alongside that, our founders Beck and Barry Besecker, inspire people to be their very best every day. They exemplify entrepreneurship, which requires passion, hard work, teamwork, and dedication.
What is a dream that you want to make come true one day?
One day, I hope that 3D Cloud will be used by everyone to design and visualize their next home project. I hope that 3D Cloud can become a household name like ‘Amazon’ or ‘Google’.
What is one food you can’t resist? Pizza? Ice Cream?
I don’t know if there is one food in particular that I can’t resist; however, lately, I’ve really been enjoying chicken sandwiches (who doesn’t?).
