Sarah Hulse.
We can start with how you landed in the furniture industry. Can you tell us about that?
Sarah Hulse: I actually started my career on the shop floor at MasterBrand Cabinets in Waterloo, Iowa, working on a custom hardware line. From day one, I was learning the business hands-on—how things are made, how they move, and what it takes to deliver a quality product. Over time, I followed opportunities to grow, which eventually led me into enterprise data and systems leadership. It’s been an incredible journey of learning and evolving along the way.
What steps did you take to become the Senior Manager, Enterprise Data Management at MasterBrand Cabinets?
SH: My path has been rooted in both experience and continuous learning. While working full-time, I returned to school to earn a Bachelor’s degree in business with a focus on manufacturing and operations, which broadened my perspective. From there, I stepped into leadership roles in our Waterloo Operations across scheduling and systems, and eventually moved into corporate roles where I now lead enterprise data management for our complete portfolio of product lines. Every step built on the last, and each transition stretched me in new ways.
What do you love about working in the furniture industry?
SH: There’s something special about working in an industry where the outcome is so tangible. The products we support end up in people’s homes—it makes the work feel meaningful. I also love the mix of craftsmanship, manufacturing, and technology. It’s dynamic, and there’s always something new to learn, which has kept me engaged throughout my career.

Is there a project or success story you are most proud of?
SH: I’m especially proud of the work we’ve done to bring more structure and clarity to how we manage initiatives—making sure we’re focused on the work that delivers the most value. I also enjoy leading data and systems efforts that simplify complex processes and support product launches. Seeing those improvements make a difference across the business is really rewarding.
How important is having a network of other women as you mature in your career?
SH: It’s incredibly important. Having a network of women to learn from, lean on, and grow with has been invaluable. Those relationships provide perspective and encouragement—and they create a sense of community that helps you navigate your career with confidence.

If you could offer your younger self one piece of advice, what would it be?

What values are most important to you as a leader?
